Five election agents in Puducherry have tested positive for COVID 19 on Wednesday. Confirming their test results, the Health Department officials claim that the reason was that the booth agents have gathered in four special camps in heavy congestion.
Crowding in public places without adhering to the COVID guidelines is posing a high risk for further spread. It is noteworthy that the Election commission has made it mandatory for the agents and candidates to produce a COVID negative certificate or a vaccination report for two doses of either of the vaccines to enter into the counting centres.
The ECI has also curfewed the victory processions and gathering outside the counting centres after the counting. The counting of votes for the General Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is set to be held on May 2.
