India’s Grand Master Iniyan has won the International Open 2021 Chess Championship in La Nucia, Spain.

The La Nucia International Open 2021 Chess Championship Series in Spain was held from October 5 to October 12. 88 international chess players from 14 countries competed in it.

Grand Master Inian from the Erode district represented India. He topped the Classical Division with 9 points after winning 6 matches and tying two matches in 9 rounds.

Rodrigo Vassius of Chile secured second place and Andro Sumit of Ukraine the third.

Iniyan was unable to play in the 8th round of the tournament because he was already competing in the Super Chess League online tournament.

However, in the online competition, Israel’s Bostni Evgeni topped the list, beating key players such as Rodrigo Vassios of Chile, Vassello Peroch of Spain and Leon Valdas of Cuba.

Visweswaran, who hails from Chennai, has been coaching Iniyan for 10 years.
The success of Iniyan, a second-year student at a private arts college in Coimbatore has set an inspirational career for young sportspersons.
