Rights Education and Development Centre (READ), an NGO, distributed education scholarship to the wards of cleaning workers and held an arts expo at their colony at Municipalchathiram, near Erode Old Railway Station Road, Erode, on Tuesday.
The director of the READ R Karuppusamy presided over the function and presented a scholarship of Rs.1.20 lakh to 24 children.
He spoke on the importance of the workers, the welfare of their children by ensuring good education to them.
The special invitees of the function include Erode District Child Welfare Board Chairman Ashok, a social worker from the District Child Protection Unit Viswanathan, and social activists Vinayakamoorthy, RK Saminathan, Erode Urban Co-operative Bank Director Durairaj, Chinthanaichelvan, Veeravendan and Arivazhan were present.
Arrangements for the ceremony were made by the staff of the READ, said the NGO coordinator N Maheswaran.
