The DMK has decided to contest in 5 out of 8 constituencies in Erode district, leaving 3 to the coalition parties.
In the Erode district, the Congress was allotted Erode East, KMDK Perundurai and CPI Bhavanisagar (Reserve) segments.
So, the DMK is going to contest in 5 constituencies namely Erode West, Modakkurichi, Bhavani, Gobi and Anthiyur.
The Gobi constituency was allotted to the Congress party as the Congress was the only party in alliance with the DMK in the 2016 Assembly polls.
The DMK contested directly in other 7 constituencies.
The DMK-Congress alliance candidates lost in all 8 constituencies. In 2011 also DMK faced total rout in the district.
Now the DMK has strong alliance comprising Congress, CPI, CPM, VCK, KMDK, IUML,MMK,TVK, MDMK, etc.
In this situation, DMK is directly clashing with AIADMK in 4 constituencies and with BJP in Modakkurichi constituency.
Since Gobi and Bhavani constituencies are represented by ministers KA Sengottaiyan and KC Karupanan, the DMK has been forced to field strong candidates in these constituencies.
The DMK is likely to focus more on the Erode West constituency, which lost by 4700 votes in the last assembly polls in 2016, and the Modakkurichi constituency by less than 2,222 votes.
The DMK, which has not won a single constituency in the Erode district in the last 2011 and 2016 polls, is keen to capture all seats in the district this time.
