COVID cases spike: Temples to be closed in Coimbatore

In view of the increasing Covid cases in the Coimbatore district, the district administration has on Saturday decided to curtail the public worship in major temples that would significantly draw crowds.

According to an official release from the office of the District Collector, public entry will be banned in 4 temples in the Coimbatore district including the Marudhamalai temple, Mettupalayam Vanapathrakaliamman temple, Anaimalai Masaniyamman temple, and Perur Pattiswarar temple from August 2 to August 8.

As the Tamil month of Aadi is likely to attract more devotees to the temples, the ban on temples was brought to force. In view of the increasing COVID cases in the district, the administration has directed the police department to strictly implement the COVID protocols, especially in places where crowds gather frequently.
