COVID 19 community spread stalled successfully


Coimbatore district administration has set an example to stop community spreading successfully by following the guidelines of the Centre and state government strictly thanks to the joint effort of revenue, corporation, local body PWD, and health officials who were keen in maintaining sanitation in all areas carefully.

The first Covid 19 positive case, returned from Spain, was found on March 19 and last case was reported on April 23. Of 141 positive cases, 128 were discharged after treatment and total samples tested so far were 4548 while the Covid 19prevention activities were geared up at grassroot level with creating much awareness among public on the issue.

Says deputy  director (public health) Dr G Rameshkumar “the district collector Rasamani initiated preventive measures much earlier so that the community spreading was stopped.

The international airports was cleaned frequently, passengers came from other places were screened and quarantined for 14 days, their family members were also quarantined with stickers pasted on their homes.

Since day one, all health and others in the field used sanitizers and masks and the Kerala border was sealed to check
spreading of virus, awareness panels were kept in all public places and contact tracing and swab tests for RT PCR were done on the same day, door to door survey was taken to identify positive cases, private hospitals were told to send suspicious cases to the Covid 19 special wards in as a precautionary measure.

At the same time public were told to wear masks and maintain social distancing norm, while coming out to buy essential goods and in 14 containment zones including Anamalai, Pollachi North, South, Annur essential goods were supplied to check people to come out of the area.

Besides, 43000 migrant labours were also provided food and their interest was also fully protected. So, no positive cases was reported since April 24. Any district can achieve the feat by taking effective steps, stipulated by the Centre and State as done by the Coimbatore administration. This is the only way to contain the pandemic from reaching community level.
