Coimbatore Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel Pandian said the incidence of COVID 19 will considerably increase this time than last time and those infected should go to hospitals instead of being isolated at home.
He spoke to the press regarding the impact and preventive measures. He said, “The public must wear a mask, and those who do not will be fined. Companies should also ensure that customers wear the mask, adhere to the guidelines of social distancing, using sanitiser and pulse oximeter.
Educational institutions and other firms will be penalised if they do not adhere to the guidelines. He urged people to avoid overcrowding at their family events and to practice self-control by avoiding going abroad as much as possible or isolating those who return by 4 to 5 days.
He said that between 180 and 220 people a day are affected by the corona in the Coimbatore Corporation and that the Coimbatore Corporation plans to conduct the camp with mobile vehicles in all 5 zones from the 11th, adding that the maximum number of tests in the Corporation has been increased from 4000 to 4500 last year to 2500 and now 31 additional testing centres have been set up.
He said that last time there was a need for house-to-house inspections due to the disease and now that people are aware of this, only houses are being sealed and action will be taken in consultation with the district collector on sealing the streets, rules and house-to-house inspections.
Karunya University, Bharathiar University Hostel and CODISSIA campuses are being prepared for the Corona treatment centre. So far 50,227 vaccinations have been given in 32 primary health centres of the corporation and a total of 35 houses have been sealed in the corporation areas including 11 areas in the southern zone, 10 areas each in the northern and eastern zones and 2 areas each in the western and central zones.
