Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women observed the 19 th . memorial day of Dr. Rajammal. P. Devadas. The program began with a devotional prayer song rendered by Dr. Janaka Maya Devi, Professor, Department of Music.
Dr. K. Udaya Chandrika, Professor and Dean, School of Physical Science and Computational Sciences, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Gowri Ramakrishnan, Assistant Managing Trustee, Avinashilingam Educational Trust Institutions and also the Former Registrar, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women presided over the function.
During her presidential address, she highlighted that Avinashilingam Educational Institutions which was started by Avinashilingam Ayya Avargal, was upgraded to the level of University due to the untiring efforts of Dr. Rajammal. P. Devadas.
Her commitment towards the welfare of women and children motivated her to do numerous researches and introduced new techniques in the field of nutrition.
The chief guest of the occasion, Dr. D. Lalitha, Former Dean, Faculty of Humanities, Avinashilingam Institute for Home Science and Higher Education for Women, recalled with gladness, the thirty years of long association with Dr. Rajammal. P. Devadas took pains to groom the staff and students not only in the career and academics but also focussed on their personality development and confidence.
By throwing open various opportunities to the faculty, she ensured their development in all spheres of life.
During her speech, she emphasised that, Dr. Rajammal. P. Devadas is a role model for everyone. It is to be noted with great pride, that due to her dedication and hard work, Dr. Rajammal. P. Devadas, who worked as a principal of a home science college rose to the level of a Chancellor.
She was an embodiment of knowledge, spirituality, simplicity, punctuality, sincerity and dedication.
She appreciated religious harmony, and gave importance all religions. She was a great patriot, who had strong hold on Gandhian values, and preferred wearing Khadi clothes.
Her noble qualities such as hard work, service mentality, sacrifice and spirituality was the major reason for her attaining great popularity throughout India.
The laurels received by Amma avargal are numerous, despite all her great achievements, she was humble and service oriented, mentioned the chief guest.
Dr. Premavathy Vijayan, Vice Chancellor of the university and Dr. S. Kowsalya, Registrar of the university graced the occasion with their presence. Former Chancellors and Trust member, Deans, Hod’s, staff and students graced the solemn occasion through their virtual presence. Dr. P.Chitramani, Dean, School of Commerce and Management and Dr.K.Kanniammal, Professor, Department of Commerce were the conveners of the event.
Dr.K.Kanniammal, Professor, Department of Commerce proposed the Vote of thanks. The event culminated with the national anthem.
