Many Congress functionaries, working hard for the growth for many years, were upset over the party’s proposed move to give party ticket to Thirumagan EVR, son of former union minister and TNCC president EVKS Elangovan, grand son of Periyar EVR, to contest in Erode East segment in DMK front.
On behalf of the Congress in the Erode district, many including Ilangovan, Thirumagan EVR, Minority wing Leader Suresh and Sachithananm applied for party ticket in Erode East constituency.
Party Northern District unit Chairman Saravanan applied for Gobi, Southern District Unit chairman Makkalrajan applied for Modakkurichi, Perundurai, Erode East and West, former MLA Palanisamy for Modakkurichi seat.
But, Ilangovan sought Erode East seat for himself as he felt he was victimized by allocating Theni constituency in the last LS poll.
Then, he had asked the seat for his son after the party said it could not afford it now as he was already given a chance in the parliamentary elections.
At the same time, the current leader Alagiri, former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, his son Karthi Chidambaram, Thirunavukarasar and many others suggested that the ticket for Modakkurichi constituency be given to Makkaalrajan.
Eventually, due to his closeness with Stalin, Elangovan got Erode East seat for his son. Regarding this, the partymen said: in each block, many applied for the seat.
Unfortunately, Erode East was allotted to Congress and Elangovan tried to grab it for his son though his son didn’t do anything for the party’s growth so far.
There are many competent leaders in the party to be fieled in the segment, who have no expectations.
But, Elangovan’s son did not take part in any struggle, did not go to jail for the party and did not spend anything for the party.
Although Ilangovan worked for the party’s growth, no one knew his son.
Though he is the state general secretary of the party, he never resolved any public issue.
Despite this, the parties and key executives are all keeping silent to avert direct clash with Ilangovan.
If he contests, the ADMK front would gain much in the segment, they feared.
