Coimbatore ESI Government Hospital Dean Dr Raveendran on Saturday said that 62 beds with oxygen facilities are vacant.

Coimbatore district has topped the single day spike of COVID cases in Tamil Nadu. The number of infections dropped from Thursday’s count of 4734 to 3937 yesterday. Corona treatment centres are being set up in various parts of the district including schools, government and private colleges to control the spread of the disease.

In particular, the shortage of oxygen beds has been reduced following the setting up of a treatment centre with 200 beds at the Government Arts College. In particular, the ESI hospital has 747 oxygen supported beds in total. Out of that, 679 beds are full and 62 oxygen beds are vacant, said Dean Dr Raveendran. “Nevertheless, the beds in the Intensive Care Unit(ICU) are full.

Out of the total 980 beds, 778 beds are occupied and 102 are free,” he added. However the situation of patients waiting in ambulances with oxygen support seeking admission in the ICU of ESI hospital continues.
