Coimbatore Corporation collects outstanding due of Rs 13.5 crores from shops

All the outstanding payments summing to Rs 13.50 crores have been collected from various companies and shops on behalf of Coimbatore Corporation.

Commenting on this, Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara said, “Steps have been taken to collect the outstanding tax due to various companies, shops and shopping complexes in Coimbatore. Accordingly, 2 private cell phone companies have been charged Rs 10 crore 73 lakh for laying fibreglass cable.

This was followed by the closing and sealing of the shops of those who had not paid rent for the shops owned by the corporation for a long time. Shops operating in various areas including Thiyagi Kumaran Market, Thottarayan Kovil Street, Patel Road, Avinashi Road in the Central Zone were sealed.

Following this, Rs. 2 crores 77 lakhs has been collected as rent from the shops owned by the corporation in the last 20 days. Further, the process of sealing the shops owned by the corporation which have not paid rent for a long time will continue. So far Rs 13 crores 50 lakhs has been collected.

In addition, a letter has been sent to the Commissioner of Food Supply demanding payment of Rs.1 crore 7 lakhs as rent for the ration shops operating in Corporation owned buildings”. Thus he said.
