Chief Minister MK Stalin has written to the Union Minister of Civil Aviation requesting the resumption of direct flights from Malaysia and Singapore to Tamil Nadu.
In the letter, Chief Minister MK Stalin stated, “Tamil diaspora living in Malaysia and Singapore come to Tamil Nadu via Dubai, Doha and Colombo. They have to pay more because they travel on alternate routes.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation of the Union Government has not entered into agreements with countries such as Singapore and Malaysia for post-COVID air transport. Migrant Tamils living in those countries have to travel on alternate routes to Dubai, Doha and Colombo due to the lack of direct flights to Tamil Nadu. Due to this, they have to pay higher airfares with various other hardships”.
The CM thus stressed that a temporary ‘Air Transport Arrangement’ should be made between Singapore and Malaysia to provide temporary air services to address such difficulties they face.
