In front of the Periyasemur Zonal Office of the Erode Corporation, an attention-grabbing demonstration on behalf of the AITUC cleanliness workers union was held.
Heading it, union treasurer P. Ravi said ”Local body staff, especially cleanliness workers, are also acted as front line workers during the corona curfew.
So, they should be given an incentive of Rs 15,000, safety equipment such as masks, gloves, boots, safety jackets, sanitizers and soap.
All localbody staff should be tested with an oximeters and thermalscanners before going to work. The corona test should be conducted for them frequently.
The government should provide compensation of Rs 25 lakh to the family of a worker who dies due to corona and provide employment to one of his family members.
The government should bear the cost of corona treatment of the family members of the workers, they pleaded.
A demonstration led by Deputy Secretary Gnanasekara took place in front of the Interim Ward Office, emphasizing the same demand.
