Child Rights Commission holds inquiry on planned case of child sacrifice

Dr V Ramaraj, Member Tamil Nadu Commission for Protection of Child Rights on Wednesday held an inquiry in Erode in connection with a case registered on a plan to sacrifice 2 boys.

The Commission, which came to know about the case through the media, voluntarily registered a case.

Following this Saraswati Rangasamy, the chairperson of the commission, set up a separate bench comprising Ramraj and Mallika Selvaraj, members of the commission, to investigate the case and file a report.

Accordingly, the members of the Commission conducted a separate inquiry at the Erode District Collectorate with the affected children, their grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Following this, they studied the first information report registered in connection with the case in in the presence of ADSP Kanakeswari and Inspector Balamurugan at the Erode Taluk Police Station.

They said their report of this inquiry is to be submitted to the Commission. Priya Devi, District Child Welfare Officer, and Ashok, Head, Child Welfare Organization, were present during the hearing.

Then, Dr Ramraj said: We have received direct statement from the affected children.

We are investigating their guardians grandparents, aunts and uncles.

We also heard about the help children need today.

We will conclude the inquiry by submitting a statement to the Commission.

We have suggested that the police should duly submit the relevant evidence in court to convict the 5 persons, including 4 who were arrested and remanded for child abuse.

Until then, the Commission will continue to investigate the case, he added.
