Chennai UCCN launches folk art based corona awareness video

“Coronavai Jayippom” a series of performance videos featuring acclaimed traditional performing artists, presented by Chennai UCCN, the branch under the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)’s Creative Cities Network (UCCN), and powered by Aanmajothi, the cultural wing of Saraswathi Vidyalaya, has been launched.

As an official “City of Music”, Chennai is one of only 246 cities in the world to be a member of UNESCO’s prestigious UCCN, a recognition that was conferred in 2017.

The videos in the “Coronavai Jayippon” series feature Chinnaponnu Kumar (Kannadasan Award-winning folk artist and playback singer of “Naaku Mukka” fame), Simran Sivakumar (Bal Shree Honour-winning Bharatanatyam artist and founder of choreography team Anartana) and Isaivaani (Gaana singer, member of The Casteless Collective and BBC 100 Women Award-winner), Gana Muthu (Gana and playback singer from Chennai, lead singer of the award winning musical group ” The Casteless Collective and a youtuber) and Abhishek Kumar (Stand up comedian based out of Chennai, well known for featuring his alter ego ‘Mrs. Janaki’ and featured in Amazon Original – Comicstaan-Semma comedy pa).
