The Chennai Corporation and Department of School Education has on Saturday announced that the school campuses will henceforth be converted into COVID treatment centres.
On behalf of the School Education Department and the Corporation, it has been advised that all the schools under the ambit of Chennai Corporation should be kept ready including government and government-aided high schools, higher secondary schools and private schools.
Because they are large in size, the government believes that they can provide beds and treat infected people. Arrangements are being made to set up treatment centres in the above-said schools. It is noteworthy that the rapid surge in corona cases has left all the major hospitals in Chennai with a shortage of beds.
The government hospitals are overcrowding day by day and people die in the ambulance itself without being able to get treatment. To combat this emergency situation, the Government of Tamil Nadu has taken such initiatives.
