Caste discrimination dispute: Farmers’ union stages strike in Annur

The farmers’ federation in Annur has staged a strike on Thursday in support of teh farmer Gopalsamy, in the row over caste discrimination at teh VAO office.

Accordingly, shops were Closed in Annur on behalf of the farmers’ federation to show their protest demanding the dismissal of Muthusamy, the village assistant who assaulted a farmer in Annur Ottarpalayam and the withdrawal of the false charges levelled against the farmer.

Gopalsamy, a farmer from Annur in Coimbatore district, went to the Village Administration Officer(VAO) of Otter Palayam for a land dispute. He then falsely complained that he was made to fall at the feet of Gopalsamy. The police had registered a case against the farmer under various sections of the Prevention of Civil rights Act.

In this situation, after the video of Muthusamy deliberately blaming the farmer was released, the farmers of the locality indulged in a protest against Muthusamy. In this situation, the farmers’ unions had called for a strike in Annur today in support of farmer Gopalsamy. As a result, shops have been closed all over Annur since this morning.

The farmers’ federation has stated that the strike will continue until the village administration assistant Muthusamy and the VAO Kalaiselvi are sacked permanently.
