The single-phase polling to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly was conducted on Tuesday in all 234 constituencies.
Though the overall report by the Election Commission stated that the polling was ‘smooth’, there were certain allegations against a few parties and candidates for violating the electoral rules. In that regard, a complaint was filed against actress Shruthi Hasan who accompanied her father Kamal Hasan to the booths in Coimbatore South.
Kamal Hasan contested from the Coimbatore South constituency on behalf of Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM). BJP’s chief election agent for Coimbatore South constituency R Nandhakumar had filed a complaint against actress Shruthi Hasan for having entered into the booths of Coimbatore South constituency while the polling was in process.
The complaint read, “ Makkal Needhi Maiam chief Kamal Hasan‘s daughter Shruthi Hasan has violated the electoral rules by trespassing into the booths in Coimbatore South constituency during the time of polling”. The complaint petition was submitted to the returning officer seeking due action against her for violating the code of conduct.
It is noteworthy that Vanathi Srinivasan from BJP and Mayura Jayakumar from Congress were fielded against Kamal Hasan in the same constituency.
