Bike Rallies not allowed 72 hours before polling: Election Commission

The Election Commission of India(ECI) on Monday has ordered all the Chief Electoral Officers of the poll-bound states to refrain from permitting bike rallies at any place 72 hours before the date of the poll or on the day of polling in all the poll going constituencies.

This order comes after an intimation to the commission that bikes have been used in some places to intimidate the voters. The ECI has issued a notice regarding this to the Chief Electoral Officers of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Assam, West Bengal and Puducherry.

The order says, “It has been brought to the notice of the Commission that in some places bikes are used by some anti-social elements to intimidate the voters before the Poll day and/or on Poll day.

The Commission has considered the above issue and has decided that Bike Rallies shall not be allowed at any place 72 hours before the date of the poll or on the day of polling in all the poll going constituencies”.
