The Erode District Barbers Union submitted a petition to the Collector C Kathiravan in his Camp Office on Wednesday seeking permission to open their shops.
It said that hairdressers give their full cooperation to all measures taken to prevent the spread of corona.
But, the government has ordered closure of saloon shops in urban areas.
In reality, no crowd could be seen in any shop. Only a few customers would visit daily helping a barber to earn upto Rs 500 to 750 daily. After the cost of shop rent, electricity bills, waste disposal, etc., the minimum income will be much less.
With the full blockade last year, the barbers struggled hard without income.
So, the union wanted permission to open the shops or some relief assistance to hairdressers who have lost income and have no livelihood.
