Two-day district Karate championship draws 2,000 students in Coimbatore

The Karate Coimbatore Association successfully conducted the 37th Coimbatore District Karate Championship 2025 on December 6 and 7 at the Hindustan College of Arts and Science campus. The championship was jointly organised by the association and the college, which also sponsored the venue.
The first day of the event was exclusively devoted to inter-school competitions, while the district-level championship was held on the second day. Around 2,000 students from over 200 schools across the district participated in the two-day tournament. Nearly 100 referees and judges officiated the matches.
The inaugural function featured a presidential address by Sensei Dr. R. Veeramani, President of the Karate Coimbatore Association. District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer of Coimbatore, S. Bhuvaneshwari, attended as the Chief Guest. Guests of Honour included A. Senbahavalli, Principal of Hindustan Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Director Sensei Neil Moses, and Dr. S. Karunanidhi from the Department of Physical Education. The inaugural programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Secretary Sensei Sinod.
A key highlight of the championship was the ‘Aayiram Aayiram Karangal’ initiative, during which more than 2,000 students took a collective pledge to lead a holistic life guided by the principles of karate. The oath was administered by Directors Sensei B. A. Devaraj and Sensei Paul Vickraman. The programme was jointly inspired by the Karate Coimbatore Association and the Department of Physical Education, Hindustan College of Arts and
Science. The championship featured competitions in Kata and Kumite, with categories divided by grade levels from LKG to Class XII, separately for boys and girls. The organising team was led by Treasurer Sensei P. Balasubramaniam, along with Sensei Rangaraj, Sensei G. Maheshwaran, and Sensei Dr. R. Rajkumar.
