The protracted Ukraine war: Let it be over soon

The protracted Ukraine war: Let it be over soon

Ukraine and Russia War started on February 24, 2022 and has been going on for over a year. Ukraine and NATO stand on one side and Russia on the other in this war. The fact that Ukraine is still holding out against superpower Russia with the support of the West can inspire a new kind of confidence in the world's smaller nations.

US President Joe Biden, who made a surprise visit to the country to mark the one-year anniversary of the war in Ukraine, announced more military and other aid to Ukraine and announced further sanctions against Russia. In an announcement the day after the US president's visit to Ukraine, Russian President Putin challenged that his country was ready for a protracted war.

In addition to this, Putin also made a sudden announcement indicating that Russia is ready to temporarily withdraw from the nuclear arms control pact called 'New Start'. This is the only remaining nuclear arms control agreement between the United States and Russia. Due to this announcement by the Russian president, the possibility of a nuclear arms race is also on the rise.

China, which has not directly blamed Russia on the issue, has proposed an end to the war in Ukraine after a year of war has passed. Ukrainian President Zelensky has also said that he is ready to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping regarding the idea.Looking at the first year of the ongoing war in Ukraine, the war has been disastrous for all sides.

It seems that the Russian president, who calculated that he could win as soon as possible and, did not expect that Ukraine would have this much support from Western countries. The war in Ukraine is happening inside that country. So the country is facing a huge loss of life.

The basic structures have been and continue to be disrupted. Ukraine has caused and continues to cause massive casualties to Russia as well. If the war in Ukraine continues, it may result in a direct confrontation between Russia and NATO. In today's world, an open war between the superpowers is unimaginable the extent of the devastation caused by nuclear weapons.

Any battle can be won. Or a solution will be found through negotiation. Looking at the one-year situation of the war in Ukraine, it is not clear who will win by military force. Therefore, negotiation is the only option. Keeping this in mind, all parties including Russia, Ukraine, Western countries, India and China should act. Peace must prevail in Ukraine. In today's world, peace in Ukraine is imperative. The nations of the world are praying for that to happen!
