Organized in association with Asian Paints, Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation, RAAC (Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore) and other relevant partners (mentioned below)*, St+art India Foundation & Asian Paints continue its endeavour to further establish another public art district in India: Ukkadam Art District. Located in Kovai’s Ukkadam Colony - a TNUHDB (Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board) site, the art district is India’s sixth and the state’s second open-air and open-to-all public art gallery.

Prestigious World Illustration Award

Started in 2020, the project featured three contemporary artists in November, who contributed with their unique works to establish and expand the art district. The third edition of St+art & Paints’ Ukkadam Art District focused on reimagining the biodiversity of Coimbatore. With the aim to engage meaningfully with the community further, several workshops and activities were conducted through a focus on preservation of endangered species, indigenous wisdom and the biodiversity of flora, fauna. Four workshops and few other activities animated the neighborhood and brought diverse age groups at the forefront of the project in the creation of community walls and artworks.Neethi, an artist who executed a mural last year during the 2nd edition, bagged the prestigious World Illustration Award in the Site Specific Category for her project Veedu or Home. This took Coimbatore onto a global map for public art according to the event organisors.
