Pen Statue of Kalaignar!

Pen Statue of Kalaignar!

Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Kalaignar Karunanidhi passed away on August 7, 2018 due to old age. A memorial is being built for him at the Marina at a cost of Rs 39 crore.

Along with this, the Tamil Nadu government announced the decision to put a pen statue of Kalaignar Karunanidhi in the sea at a cost of Rs.80 crore. The Tamil Nadu government has also sent a letter to the Union government seeking permission for the same.

The memorial will have modern light and sound show of photographs and the biography of Kalaignar Karunanidhi. Karunanidhi's pen memorial is to be set up in the sea at a distance of 360 meters from the beach. Construction of an iron bridge is planned so that people can visit this monument. The pen statue at the Karunanidhi Memorial is to be erected at a height of 134 feet.

Some have questioned whether this pen statue is necessary. Yes it is necessary; because he is a university. He is a wonderful combination of thought, writing, speech and action. Born in a simple family, Kalaingar rose through hard work.

His tireless work, unwavering self-confidence and dynamic personality made him rise to the ranks of Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Leader of the Opposition, Minister and Chief Minister. He also made a mark in the film industry.

“Even the scepter can be taken from me;But no one, no power can take away my pen," said Kalaingar which none will ever forget.

In his 80 years of public life there was no letter he did not write; Nothing is unspoken. He brought the classical language states to Tamil. He is a historical hero who gave women the right to property, right to study and right to work.

Why is there a demand for a ban on the pen of this multifaceted person? Politics offcourse.
No doubt that the pen statue of Kalaingar, which will be erected in the Marina, will continue to inspire the spirit of writing and reading in the youth and future generations.

There will always be a group of people who oppose anything. The Tamil Nadu government should immediately proceed with the work of erecting a pen statue memorial to the artist!
