Law and order violations have been a constant happening in Jammu and Kashmir, which is known for its prevalent tension. In certain cases, Pakistan-based terror organizations are the main cause of it. There has also been a growing criticism that the Pakistani government is indirectly supporting it.
On April 22, 26 unarmed civilians were murdered in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Condemning the attack, everyone including Muslims in the region, registered their protest. Ever since the attack, rising tension has been witnessed between the countries. While India has been evacuating Pakistan nations from its region, Pakistan has been evacuating Indian nationals from its soil. India has suspended its partnership in the Indus river treaty, and prohibited Pakistani ships and aircrafts from entering its territory.
On Wednesday, India launched a military response called ‘Operation Sindoor’, and claimed to have destroyed terrorist camps in Pakistan. The Indian army claims to have killed 70 terrorists, and the incident has shaken the neighboring country.
Meanwhile, social media posts alleging Muslims and Kashmiris are responsible for the terrorist attack. Saddened by the remark, Himanshi Narwal, the wife of the Indian Navy soldier who died in the Pahalgam attack, appealed to the public not to express hatred against Muslims and Kashmiris who have no connection with the attack.
Following the appeal, people have started hating Narwal. The National Commission for Women and several others have expressed their support to her.
On Wednesday, Narwal said, “My husband wanted the people to live in peace. He wanted no hatred and terrorism in the country. I welcome the action taken by the government against terrorists, and I thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for it. But this action should not be ended now. This should be the beginning of ending terrorism in our country.”
She insisted on eradicating terrorism, and at the same time, the public should not be polarized. But hateful propaganda posts against Narwal continue to circulate on social media platforms. The union government should take immediate steps to ban such posts, and delete the existing ones.
