Actor Ajith Kumar has urged fans, the media, and society at large to take collective responsibility for the recent Karur stampede incident, saying it is unfair to place the blame on a single individual.
In a candid interview with an English media outlet, Ajith reflected on the chaos that unfolded in Karur, where a massive crowd gathered during a fan-related event. “That individual alone is not responsible for what happened in Karur — we all are. The media also has a role to play. As a society, we must stop glorifying such behaviour,” he said, stressing the need for greater accountability.
The actor pointed out that the obsession surrounding film stars often leads to unsafe situations. “Crowds gather for cricket matches too, but such incidents don’t occur there.
Why does this happen only in theatres or around film artists? It reflects poorly on our entire film industry. Even Hollywood actors don’t encourage such frenzy,” he remarked. Ajith also spoke about the dedication of film professionals and the emotional connection they share with their audiences.
“We work hard, stay away from our families, face injuries, sleepless nights, and enormous stress — all for the love of the people. But there are safer and better ways to express that love. The media, too, should avoid encouraging this ‘first-day premiere’ culture,”
he added.
Ajith’s measured comments have been widely appreciated by fans and industry peers, with many lauding his responsible and introspective approach to a sensitive issue.
