A Congress delegation led by Rahul Gandhi met the President at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in Delhi on Wednesday regarding the Lakhimpur violence.
The meeting is to seek a fair trial in the Lakhimpur case in which Ashish Misra, son of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra killed the farmers by ramming his car upon them.
In this context, a seven-member Congress delegation led by former Congress President Rahul Gandhi met President Ramnath Kovind today.
The Congress delegation includes Kharge, senior leaders AK Antony, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Lok Sabha Congress leaders Athir Ranjan Chaudhary, Priyanka Gandhi and KC Venugopal.
They then petitioned the President to remove Minister Ajay Mishra from the cabinet.
Following this, Priyanka Gandhi told reporters that the President had assured them that he would discuss with the Union Government today regarding the issue of the Lakhimpur farmers massacre.
Speaking to the press, Rahul Gandhi said, “We have demanded the removal of Union Minister Ajay Mishra from office in connection with the Lakhimpur affair.
We have also urged that appropriate action be taken in the Lakhimpur affair.
The trial is unlikely to be fair until Ajay Mishra is removed from the post of Union Minister”.
