The agriculture department has kept paddy seeds to be given at subsidized price for ryots during the current season when water was released for 25000 acre in the Thadapalli-Arakkankottai ayacut in the Gobi region, said the agriculture assistant director V Jeevadayalan.
During the current samba season, 130-140 day duration following paddy seed varieties are more suitable: Co49, 50, ADT 38, 39,50, Bavani, Samba Masuri 5204, Samba Sub, improvised White Ponni, IR 20. Under the Scheme for Rice Intensification (SRI), 3 kg seeds and conventional method, 20 kg seeds per acre are required.
In one acre one can get an yield of 4 tons per acre by following methods like seed treatment, SRI, using compost and natural manure, bio fertilizers, micro fertilizers, neem oil cake, proper fertilizer, pest and crop management system.
The department has kept 38902 kg seeds in the Gobi agriculture extension centre and sub centre at Gugalur, he added.
