Additional 1800 MT storage capacity to be inaugurated in Indane plant next month


An additional 1800 MT LPG storage capacity will be inaugurated in the IOC’s Indane bottling plant at Sipcot, Perundurai, next month, said the chief plant manager R Thamaraiselvan.

In connection with the customers day (Jan 9), he told newsmen in the plant, `in TN, Indane has 1.60 Crore LPG domestic customers.

Supplies to customers are made through a network of 900 distributors who are supplied cylinders from IndianOil’s LPG Bottling Plants from Ennore (Chennai), Chengalpet, Salem, Erode, Mayiladuthurai, Mannargudi, Trichy, Coimbatore, Madurai, Ilayangudi, Puducherry and Tirunelveli. IndianOil’s Indane LPG has a market share of 57.7% in Tamil Nadu.

IndianOil’s Erode Indane LPG Bottling plant is located in SIPCOT industrial area of Perundrai over an area of 60.93 Acres and was commissioned in 2001.

The plant has a total Storage capacity of 1850 Metric Tons (MT) stored in three above ground bullets with combined capacity of 450MT and One Horton Sphere with storage capacity of 1400 MT. Additional LPG storage facility of 1800 MT is being added to the bottling plant for which regulatory clearances are awaited.

This Plant fills around 34,000 LPG cylinders per Day, translating to an annual bottling capacity of 120 Thousand MT (Metric Tons).

Erode LPG BP In line with the guidelines of Oil Industry Safety Directorate, the whole plant is covered with fire water Network to tackle emergencies with fire Hydrant monitors installed at strategic points.

The entire fire water network is connected to two fire water tanks of 7400 Kl total capacity and fire engines of adequate capacity.

Gas Monitoring System with several Sensors with Mimic panels help in auto detection and prevention of major leakage during the LPG Bottling Operations, he added.

“Automatic water spray system through Deluge valves are installed for all critical facilities so as to provide effective water spray cover to the facility during leakage or fire. Gas monitoring sensors are provided near potential source of leakage areas to identify leaks in the initial stage to auto trigger protective measures.

Centralized Fire alarm panel is provided in control room to trip the power supply of the plant to shut down the whole plant and activate siren during emergencies”, he points out.

Speaking to media persons, Rajasekar Rajaram, Manager (Corporate Communications), IndianOil, Southern Region, said that the organic Waste Convertor is installed in the Plant to treat the organic waste generated by the plant.

The plant is well secured with an Access Control System with fingerprint readers and surveillance system with multiple cameras cross the plant’s operational areas, he added.

Today, Indane is delivered to the doorsteps of 12 crore customer households. IndianOil has 91 bottling plants similar to Erode plant across the country rolling out 2 million cylinders a day, making IndianOil the second largest marketer of LPG globally, after SHV Gas of Netherlands”, he added.
