A colony in Coimbatore named after Dr Umanath IAS

Collector Thiru. Umanath Colony, named after the then Collector of Coimbatore district in 2010 is located in Viralikadu, Karumathampatti in Coimbatore.

A colony near Coimbatore is named after Dr Umanath, a senior IAS officer who has been appointed as one of the four Special Secretaries to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin.

The colony is named after him as a way of expressing gratitude for giving Patta documents to people who were stranded in 2010. It is noteworthy that he has been the Collector of Coimbatore District during that period. The DMK government, which assumed office on May 7, appointed senior IAS officer V Irai Anbu as the new Chief Secretary. Incumbent Rajeev Ranjan was transferred and posted as Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited.

Apart from the replacement of the Chief Secretary, four IAS officers were appointed by the CM as Special Secretaries to the Chief Minister. IAS officers T Udhayachandran, P Umanath, MS Shanmugam and Anu George will be Chief Minister’s secretaries. Dr P Umanath was earlier the Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Medical Services Corporation (TNMSC). A 2001 batch IAS officer, Umanath hails from Virudhunagar district in Tamil Nadu.

He has served as the sub Collector of Nagapattinam. Before serving as the Collector of Coimbatore, he held the position of Finance Secretary to the Government of Tamil Nadu.
