The Kongu belt, especially the Coimbatore region is predominantly known as the bastion of ADMK, has retained its status though the overall results are different.
There are ten constituencies in Coimbatore and the AIADMK alliance has won in all the ten constituencies, out of which the ADMK has marked its victory in 9 seats and one by BJP. AIADMK candidates in Thondamuthur (S.P. Velumani), Singanallur (K.R. Jayaram), Coimbatore North (Amman K. Arjunan), Kavundampalayam( PRG Arunkumar) and Sulur (V P Kandasamy) had marked their victories. Similarly, the ADMK candidates in Mettupalayam(A K Selvaraj), Pollachi (V. Jayaraman), and Valparai (T.K. Amul Kandasami) had also marked a clear win.
The BJP candidate for Coimbatore South, Vanathi Srinivasan won by a slim margin of 1425 votes. After a long tussle, the AIADMK candidate in Kinathukadavu constituency Dhamodaran marked his victory. While sitting Minister S P Velumani won the battle by a cosy margin of 41,709 votes, while the party’s incumbent MLA and Deputy Speaker V. Jayaraman won by 2,088 votes.
