75 percent of Powerloom workers not return to work

Over 75 percent of Powerloom workers who went to their native places to celebrate Diwali did not return to their units so far, affecting the cloth production activities. In the district, areas like Solar, Erode, Vijayamangalam, Perundurai, Chithode, Sivagiri, Veerapanchathram, Chennimalai etc, have over 40000 small and medium powerloom units.
They provide direct and indirect job opportunity to over 1 lakh workers. The units declare nearly one week holiday for Diwali celebration.

But, even after the lapse of holiday, many did not return to work.
Less number of local workers attended the work now, while many who went to their native places did not return, affecting the production under free cloth production scheme of the government.

Already due to steep rise in price of rayon yarn, many units stopped production of rayon cloth.
The unit holders sought action to streamline the yarn price and allot fund, yarn etc for free cloth production scheme by June itself every year.
