Various new restrictions came into force from Thursday due to steep rise in corona cades. The district recorded 616 new cases on Wednesday.
Already, the night curfew has been in effect since April 20 and full-time curfew is observed every Sunday.
However, Corona is spreading rapidly in the district. More than 500 people are affected every day.
Following this, various preventive measures are being taken on a wartime basis on behalf of the district administration.
As per the new restrictions, which would be in force till May 20, vegetable, grocery, tea, meat and fish shops operated only from 6 am to 12 noon today.
All other type of shops including textile shops, utensil shops, electronics shops, cell phone recharge shops were remain closed. Only 50 per cent of the passengers were allowed to travel in buses.
Similarly, taxis and autos followed this procedure. Restaurants supplied food in parcels only from 6 am to 10 pm, 12 noon to 3 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm.
Similarly, Amma unavagams supplied parcels only. Saloons and beauty parlours were already barred to function in urban areas and the rule was extended to rural areas also from Thursday.
All 37 theatres in Erode district were also closed, government offices functioned with 50 per cent staff, IMFL shops functioned from 8am to 12 noon as per the new norms.
