52 villages threaten to boycott poll

People of 52 villages threatened to boycott the election in protest against a government’s housing scheme.

In Ayyan Valasu village near Kavunthappadi, a project is underway to construct an apartment on behalf of the government.

Ayyan Valasu and the surrounding villagers have been protesting and engaging in struggles.

They have announced that they will boycott the assembly elections if the plan is not canceled.

Following this, officials held talks with the protesters yesterday at the Bhavani taluk office, led by the returning officer. But, without reaching any conclusion, it ended in failure.

As a result, people from 52 villages, including Ayyan Valasu, Manikkavalasu, Kasi Countenputhur, Ayakkauntanputhur, Vengamedu, Periyagaundan Valasu, Kuttipalayam, Salangapalayam and Gountampalayam, have decided to boycott the election.

They also warned that if the project continues, the ration card and voter ID cards will be handed over to the collector
