Government Erode Medical College Hospital (GEMCH) will have 300 beds with oxygen connection from Friday, Housing Minister S. Muthusamy said.
He inaugurated the corona vaccination camp for journalists at the Collector’s Office, Erode and held a review meeting with officials including Collector C. Kathiravan.
Later, he told reporters: At present, bed facilities with oxygen connection in government hospitals and private hospitals are slightly less. So, such beds in Erode Government Hospital was increased from 131 to 250. In a day or two, the new beds will be operational.
At the GEMCH, we have upgraded the bed capacity from 550 to 650 with oxygen. Additional 300 beds with 300 oxygen connections, will be operational from Friday.
Another 300 will come into use during the next one week and by June 20, more than 200 beds with oxygen connection will be available.
With this, 1,550 beds will be available in Perundurai. Not only in Erode but also in the nearby districts, the complaint about lack of bed and oxygen connection will be attended.
Around 3,500 beds were arranged in schools and colleges for corona patients who did not need oxygen and of which 2500 beds are vacant. Those who do not have isolation facilities at home and those who need medical treatment are being treated there.
Similarly, Anthiyur, Satyamangalam, Gobi and Bhavani government hospitals were upgraded with 100 beds each with oxygen facility.
However, corona patients will only be accommodated in some beds there. Other beds and other buildings, will give priority to other patients, he added.
