3 tier security in counting centres in Erode

In Erode district, the voting machines in eight assembly constituencies were kept in separate rooms at the counting centers and sealed in the presence of officials and agents of the candidates.


Intensive surveillance is underway at the counting centers with paramilitary forces and police being deployed with three layers of security and surveillance cameras.

In the six assembly constituencies of Erode East, Erode West, Modakkurichi, Perundurai, Bhavani and Anthiyur in the Erode district, the ballot machines are kept in separate rooms at the counting center at the IRTT Engineering College in Chithode.Similarly, ballot boxes of Gobi and Bhavanisagar Assembly constituencies were kept at the counting center set up at the Gobi Arts College in Gobi.


Election officials said three layers of security would be put in place until May 2 and that the counting center would be closely monitored 24 hours by CCTV surveillance cameras and armed guards and security forces.

The average turnout in the eight assembly constituencies in the district was 77.07 per cent.

The counting of votes is scheduled to take place on May 2, official sources said.
