2 tonnes of construction waste per day collected in Coimbatore district

Corporation officials say 5,000 tonnes of construction waste has been collected in Coimbatore so far and dumped in quarries. There are more than 5,500 streets in 100 wards under the Coimbatore Corporation.

Construction work is ongoing in many parts of the city, such as renovating old buildings and constructing new ones. Due to this up to 2 tonnes of building waste is collected daily. Steps are being taken on behalf of the corporation to remove the building waste.

According to the corporation officials, ” Unused quarries have been found in the district to dump building waste collected in the areas under the Coimbatore Corporation. Building waste collected in the city is being dumped in 2 quarries that are not in use in Madukkarai and Sulur.

Only building waste is dumped in these pits. So far about 5,000 tonnes of building waste has been dumped in the pits”.
