12 feet wall collapsed due to rain in Ukkadam

Ponds are being rehabilitated in Coimbatore under the Smart City project. In that regard, a stretch of 1.2 km in the Quick win area of the Ukkadam pond has been renovated at a cost of Rs 39.74 crores and another stretch of 4.3 km in the Phase 1 area at a cost of Rs 62 crores.

This includes the completion of work to strengthen the banks around the pond, including the construction of a natural water treatment plant, the construction of a bicycle path, parks, a restaurant, floating sidewalks, playgrounds with recreational features, the construction of pedestrian paths, the construction and improvement of waterways.

The disposal of the agave in the pond was also completed. Meanwhile, the pond was opened for public use at the end of last February. A wall about 12 feet high and 50 feet long was erected on the pond in the Cheran Nagar area near Karumbukkadai. In this situation, it rained in various places in Coimbatore yesterday in which this wall collapsed.

The wall is said to have collapsed at around 3am this morning. No casualties were reported in the incident.
