Bangalapudhur police seized Rs 8 lakh worth banned tobacco products, being smuggled in the garlic laden mini van, and arrested the driver.
Following information that the van was coming from Karnataka via KN Palayam forest check post near Gobi, the police tightened their vigil at Bangalapudhur check post.
When they inspected the van, they found the gutkha, pan masala and banned tobacco products in 36 bags and 10 cartons. So, the police seized them and arrested the van driver Senthilkumar.
The police inquiry revealed that it was being transported from Kozhipalayam, Karnataka to Madurai and were holding further inquiry on who were behind the smuggling.
