Panchayat councilors plea to ban M-Sand firm

Erode,
Five members of Komarayanur panchayat, Anthiyur block, submitted a petition at the collectorate on Monday seeking ban on a M-Sand producing unit in the area. They said that the firm was using explosives to break rocks to produce sand regularly, leading to air, sound pollution in the area.

The revenue, TNPCB and panchayat offered building licence for the firm during the lock down period. Though the panchayat members opposed it, the panchayat president gave permission for the unit. Due to huge sound, people were not able to live peacefully in the area and houses were damaged.

The ground water was also depleted much. If the unit was functioning continuously, people would suffer more so they wanted cancellation of licence given to the firm.
