Minister lays foundation for Rs 30.49 crore housing project

Local Administration Minister SP Velumani laid foundation for construction of 352 houses at a project cost of Rs 30.49 crore at Sikkadasampalayam, Mettupalayam, on Monday.

He said that “housing would economically develop weaker sections so that only the multi storey housing project is initiated by the TNSCB.
As per the dream of late CM Jayalalithaa, TN is going to be free from huts by 2023 as many projects are going on to improve the life style of urban poor’’.
At Sikkadasampalayam, 352 flats would be constructed in 0.93 ha land with each having bed room, kitchen, toilet, bath room and hall in 400 sq ft.

The hutdwellers who were hit due to floods would be given flats, each costing Rs 8.66 lakh without land cost. Under the JNURM also, those who settled in objectionable government poromboke lands in Coimbatore corporation area were shifted to 396 sq ft flats in many areas.

Under the project, 10278 flats were constructed in 11 projects in the district and those who were residing in water bodies in the Corporation limit were being evicted under the smart city scheme and were being shifted to such houses.

Those who resided in Valangulam, Kurichi kulam, Periyakulam, Nanjundapuram, Itteri Rajavaikkal, Kulatheri, Anna Nagar, Athumedu, Anaimedu etc were given houses so far.

HFA-AHP: Under the PM Housing For All project, multi storey buildings having 400 sq ft flats were constructed with the contribution of people who did not have houses/plots and who lived in the objectionable government poromboke lands and water bodies, and allotted to them.

Under that scheme, 928 flats were being allotted and now 4017 flats were under construction. The rest of 5350 flats would soon be constructed.
Poor, living in huts in their own lands, were given Rs 2.10 lakh subsidy of Centre and state to construct 300 sq ft houses. The subsidy would be deposited in their bank accounts in 4 instalments.

Under the scheme, 20733 applications were approved and 7783 houses were constructed. Now, 5609 houses were under construction. In the current year alone, 7341 houses would be constructed, he added. By this way, the basic need of poor and downtrodden was fully met by the government, he added.
