Corporation Commissioner announces closure of MGR Veg Market

COIMBATORE,
Corporation Commissioner cum Special Officer Sravan Kumar Jadavath announced on Friday that the Dr. MGR Wholesale Vegetable Shandy at Mettuplayam Road was being closed to prevent spread of COVID 19 to public.

Following three persons working in the market being tested positive for COVID 19 in the first stage of test, the Commissoner reviewed the awareness levels and implementation of COVID 19 mitigation measures at the Dr.MGR Wholesale Vegetable Shandy.

In order observe social distancing, the onion and tomato sales were shifted to the new market place in the new bus stand located opposite to the present market. Other vegetable items are being sold in the old market.

According to a press communication from the Coimbatore Corporation, it was found that in the old market the social distancing was not being adequately followed, some traders were not wearing masks.

The pathways were dumped with vegetable sacks, drainage and rainwater structures were found encroached leaving little for free movement of peoplespace. The City Health Officer, Dr.R.Gunasekaran, Assistant Commissioner A.J SenthilArasan and Executive Engineer Saravana Kumar were present.
