Stern action would be taken on the units causing pollution in the water bodies, warned Erode district collector C Kathiravan. In a release here on Sunday, TNPCB district environment engineer Udayakumar said that the National Green Tribunal (NGC), southern region, Chennai, registered a case suo moto on pollution problem in the Cauvery river and appointed a high level committee led by collectors of Erode and Namakkal districts to submit a report on the issue.
On the basis of collector’s order, a sub committee comprising the TNPCB, flying squad, Erode tahsildar and corporation officials were constituted to inspect the dyeing, bleaching and tannery units. On June 24, 2020, the committee found a bleaching unit at Vettukattuvalasu in not operating its ETP so that its power supply was disconnected. If the units violate the TNPCB norms, stern action would be taken on them, it added.
