2 held for trying to change counterfeit notes

Erode Veerappanchatram police arrested two persons on the charge of trying to change 4 counterfeit notes of Rs 500 denomination at a chilli chicken shop at Narayanavalasu, Erode on Friday to buy some food items.

On suspicion over the genuinity of the notes, the shopkeeper Balu informed the police, while the duo escaped from the scene. After investigation, cops arrested Sathish 23 and Slundarrajan 20 of Manikkampalayam, Erode. They confessed that they were selling cloth by going to various places through a car.

But, now they faced fund constraint. So, they. after seeing a news item in the YouTube, bought a colour xerox machine and started using it to xerox Rs 100,500 notes and tried to exchange it to buy some food item.

The cops seized the colour printer, 22 number of Rs 500, 17 Rs 200, 57 Rs 100 counterfeit notes, a car and a motorcycle from them. Later, the cops remanded them to judicial custody after producing them in Erode court. The cops advices people to accept currency notes after verifying them fully and inform them if they have any suspicion over the notes.
